Check the referral
Confirm that the referral has been received, what stage it is at, how the service will contact you and who to tell if your details or circumstances change.
Gather useful information gradually
Keep brief examples of difficulties across work, education, home and relationships, plus anything you know about childhood patterns. Do not feel you need to prove a diagnosis yourself.
Ask about support now
For adults, workplace or study adjustments may be available based on needs. For children and young people, NHS guidance says support at home and school should continue while waiting.
Write down the things you most want remembered. You can read from your notes, show them to the clinician, or use the free appointment-prep tool to put them in order.
